REYDON is a small 14 bedroom B&B run by its owners (Laura and Andrew Potter), and situated in the centre of Argentina on the outskirts of the town of La Cumbre, in the province of Cordoba. It was built in 1923 by a family that came from Reydon, Norteast of London, on a 6 acre property. It is a 1 and ½ hour drive from the Cordoba city airport, and can also be reached in an first class overnight sleeper bus from Buenos Aires, or by car, on your route to the Argentine Northwest. La Cumbre was founded by Buenos Aires and Cordoba aristocrats, together with British immigrants, and they gave it its particular architectural and laid back elegant style. The surroundings are hilly, with a wonderfully dry climate all year round. Summer is when it rains with sudden downpours, only to clear again, a couple of hours later, opening up its bright blue skies.During the day, in summer, it is cool in the shade and also in the evenings. In winter, it is temperate during the day, with cold nights. It is an ideal place to BE ALIVE in. To feel and smell and hear the real sounds of nature, with a quiet closeness to civilization. There are lovely walks to be done in the area, through sparsely built areas, or in the open hills. The height is between 3000Ft (1000m) and 5000ft (1700m), with open grassy plains on the top of the hills. There is plenty of wildlife around, including condors that can be seen soaring in the blue. There are streams and rock faces to be walked in and climbed. Up to a height of 1500m there is plenty of vegetation that thins out as one rises.Horse rides can be done, with different durations, from a couple of hours, up to several days.La Cumbre is a town that many artists and artisans have chosen to live and work in. There are painters, writers, ceramists, and many other distinguished argentine personalities that spend a part of their time resting or working in the area. They often open their studios to our visitors. We are right in the middle of the remains of the Jesuit farms in the area, all of them about one hours drive away. Also, there are many sports to be practiced in the area. Cuchicorral is famous for having been the home of one of the World Paragliding (parapente) Championship in 1998, and is renowned for being one of the best places for practicing the sport, as one can drive right up to the point of takeoff. From the top of this escarpment, there is a beautiful view of the sunset, looking down at the Rio Pinto and the Cruz del Eje lake in the distance, all while the flyers are gliding about with their colorful parachutes, above. There are strange rock formations to be walked among, and climbed. There are scents and colours that surround you, that rise from the newly rained on earth and aromatic plants.Cycling, is another possibility to see the countryside, with or without a guide, who will take you and fetch you at special points.Golf is another of the attractions, as we have a British links style course at the La Cumbre Golf Club, founded in 1926, and one of the oldest in the country. The food in the area is special, with many typical dishes, including the chivito (grilled kid) to be savoured at some of the many small restaurants that are attended to by their owner cooks. They will share with you the ideas they work on to make their place special, and offer you some of the many Argentine wines that are produced in the area and over the hills in Mendoza and other provinces. At REYDON we also serve dinners, cooked by Chemi, who never stops thanking guests shyly for their compliments on her hand for food.I am sure you will enjoy the many alternatives of interest and special countryside attractions offered in the area. I speak English as a mother tongue, and Laura does alright when pressed, and what might be missing, she makes up for with charm.See our web page at: www.reydon.comPlease, do not hesitate to contact us, and we will do our best to help you feel at home at REYDON.ANDREW POTTER Contact InformationCompany: REYDONName: Greentree Hotels S.R.L.Street: Bartolome Jaime s/nCity: La Cumbre - Cruz ChicaState/Province: CordobaCountry: ArgentinaZip/Postal Code: 5178Phone: 54-3548-451 056Fax: 54-3548-451-910Website: www.reydon.com E-mail: Click here to send an e-mail inquiry--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
