Just a short walk from Chicago's McCormick Place Convention Center and nearby museum campus, the elegant Wheeler Mansion was built one year before the great Chicago fire by then-president of the Chicago Board of Trade, Calvin T. Wheeler.
Recently restored to its intended beauty, The Wheeler Mansion offers all of the modern conveniences that business and luxury travelers alike have come to expect in a pristine, comfortable setting.
Like many grand residential properties in the McCormick area, the mansion was converted in the early 1900's for commercial purposes; many businesses were buying homes near the McCormick area, and the Wheeler-Kohn House was once the headquarters of such local businesses as Wartenburg Publishing as well as Murphy Butter and Egg.
Today, the only butter and eggs at this Italianate mansion are served at the breakfast table. The mansion has 11 guest rooms that are all decorated in a 19th century style, with antiques, brocade, armoires and velvet drapes. A few rooms have their own Jacuzzis, private sitting areas, fireplaces, whirlpool tubs, and other special amenities.
