You can't stay closer to the Nauvoo Temple than at the Hart House, just across the street from the temple. This location has an unobstructed view of the temple, in addition to a panoramic view of the Mississippi River and its beautiful sunsets.
The Hart House is a finely constructed home with beautiful oak woodwork, hardwood floors, and French doors with original glass. The home sleeps up to 12 in four bedrooms, and with a sofa sleeper in the family room. There are two and a half bathrooms, one with a Jacuzi whirlpool tub.
The home has a large front porch for visiting and enjoying the view of the temple and Mississippi River. Entering the front door, the large living room has a sofa and love seat, a fireplace and entertainment center. Through double French doors the large dining room seats 8 for dinner and has beautiful oak window seats in the bay window featuring a view of the Mississippi River. Through another set of double French doors you are in the library with over a hundred books about church history and Nauvoo.
The kitchen has retained its original pine cabinetry, but added modern appliances for convenience. It has most of the utensils and kitchen supplies a family would need while staying in Nauvoo. Off the kitchen is a sun porch with a table for four, offering a view of the garden in the back. Also located on the main floor is a half bath for the convenience of guests.
There is a beautiful oak stairway from the living room, and a servant's stairway from the kitchen to the upstairs bedrooms. The two large bedrooms at the back of the home feature queen size beds and walk-in closets. The large master bedroom with a beautiful view of the temple, features a king size bed, walk-in closets, and a TV & VCR. The upstairs bathroom retains its deep original cast iron tub, but with the addition of a Victorian shower, and wrap around curtain.
The basement has been completely remodeled with a family room featuring a queen size sofa sleeper, rocker-recliner, entertainment center with 31 inch TV, VCR, DVD, CD and Surround Sound. There are video cassettes and DVDs about Nauvoo and Carthage available to view. The full bathroom includes a Jacuzi whirlpool tub and separate shower. Also available for guest's use is a washer and dryer. The Tom Sawyer-Huck Finn bedroom is off the family room and has twin bunk beds.
