We are your personal resource persons, but only to the extent that you would like assistance in making your vacation as rich a cultural experience as possible. Our guest guide is comprehensive and provides valuable tips regarding cautions and warnings (i.e. eating on the street, creepy crawlers, staying out late at night, etc), suggestions regarding sites, restaurants and interesting articles written by us with respect to life and the multiplicity of cultural traditions in the valley of Oaxaca. Our home is of adobe, brick and stone construction so you are assured of a pleasant indoor climate all year round...but of course there's a ceiling fan in the large bedsittingroom (19' x 13'), and additional fans available if necessary...and the kitchen (14' x 15') is partially open, and leads onto the landscaped patio (20' x 22'). From the kitchen, patio and bedsittingroom you have breathtaking views of the valley and mountains. Feel free to use our propane BBQ. Our tourguide services are unmatched. Avoid being saddled with a group of strangers in a packed tour bus, and come along for a day's touring that you've helped to plan. It you don't like ruins, we won't go to any. If you're a potter we'll take you to a couple of the barro villages and you can watch demonstrations, ask questions. If you've been on California or Niagara wine tours perhaps you'd like to spend part of the day touring the old mom and pop mezcal factories where you can taste to your heart's content, see the ancient process being performed without the use of yeasts or any other agents. We are unique in that we offer private cooking lessons as well by one of the preeminent Oaxacan chefs, Doña Lancha, who has been representing Oaxaca in national competitions and culinary expos for 30 years. Attend the market with us for fresh produce, herbs, spices and meats, then return to our spacious traditiona kitchen (pictured) where Doña Lancha will be waiting to begin. Assist her while you make notes on the prepared recipe sheets (there's always some ad-libbing), ask questions, imbibe, and then enjoy the comida of your trip, with unlimited soft and alcoholic beverages. Oaxaca is our passion. We've writting extensively about the city and will be happy to share our articles and make our modest library available to you as well. Want to know where the best art galleries are? We've prepared a walking tour of about 40 of them. Curious about all the strange sounds you hear in the city? There's an article explaining what you hear. Have a soft spot for fresh pastries? The bread and pastry truck comes by the house daily. We're about a ten minute drive from the heart of downtown, the Zócalo, and chauffeur you to the downtown destination of your choice weekday mornings. There are buses and taxis about 2 blocks from the house. About a 2 minute walk from the house is a stone and grass walking path for your morning walks or jogs, and we'll accompany you if at first you're reluctant to wander off into the countryside on your own. From the pathway you can see the ruin of Monte Albán on a clear day. Concerned about health issues? A good friend is an English speaking doctor, and our dentist is fully bilingual. Coming with the children? Our extra bedroom is small, but great for young children, with full size bunk beds. A good, safe crib with all accessories is also on premises. We can also arrange for babysitting services. Email for further information, additional photos and detailed rates.
