The food offered at the Blue Waters Mountain Lodge is traditional southern cuisine. Prepared with a new age flair, and complete with homemade breads and desserts, entrees at the Lodge are complimented by fresh local fruits and vegetables, and herbs from the Lodge's gardens. Blue Waters Mountain Lodge is conveniently located on the banks of Santeetlah Lake. Santeetlah covers 2,800 acres and is a man made reservoir. The lake attracts water sports of all kinds, including water skiing, swimming, canoeing, boating, and jet skiing. The Lodge can make arrangements for you to rent pontoons, fishing boats, ski boats, and wave runners.
Whitewater activities are available on nearby Nantahala River, including rafting, canoeing, and kayaking. A short drive takes you to whitewater adventures on the Ocoee River, home of the 1996 Summer Olympic Whitewater Event.
Fishing is a top choice for many visitors to the area, and your choices of fishing opportunities are numerous. Fishing on Santeetlah Lake on the Lodge property offers an exciting challenge to any angler. Nearby Nantahala River, Slick Rock Creek, and Snowbird Creek are fly fishing spots. Fishing guides are available at the Lodge.
Hundreds of miles of hiking trails originate just a short distance from the Lodge including the Appalachian Trail to Cheoah Bald from Stecoah Gap (12.5 miles round trip), Wauchecha Bald Trail #47 (16.5 miles round trip), Bear Creek Trail (6.5 miles round trip). The Joyce Kilmer Memorial Forest, with its giant Hemlocks and Tulip Poplars over 500 years old, is only a short distance from the Lodge. Many of the trees you will see on the Forest’s hiking trails are over 20 feet in circumference and 150 feet tall.
Mountain golf is played in the highlands, creating the stage for a great game of golf. This magnificent setting attracts golfers drawn by the scenic beauty and pleasant climate. The primary attractions to mountain golf are lush fairways, sprawling bent grass greens, cool breezes and gently undulating terrain reminiscent of the Scottish Highlands, where the game originated 200 years ago. Blue Waters Mountain Lodge can make arrangements for you to challenge some of the areas most prestigious courses such as Cherokee Hills Golf and Country Club, Mountain Harbour Golf Course, Mill Creek Country Club and Smoky Mountain Country Club.
The area offers a variety of finest Horseback riding trails through scenic vistas. The Lodge has arrangements with several rental and guide services.
Other area points of interest within ten miles of the Lodge include Chief Junaluska’s Grave, the Origination Point of the Trail of Tears, the town of Robbinsville (film location for much of the movie “Nell”), and the scenic Cherohala Skyway between Robbinsville, North Carolina and Tellico Plains, Tennessee. Within a two-hour drive are the Tennessee tourist destinations of Knoxville, Gatlinburg, Pigeon Forge and the Great Smoky Mountain National Park, the nation’s most visited park in the National Park System.
