Due to this success, and our desire to spend more time in the High Country, we acquired a second cabin in early 2002 that is a mirror image of the Carolina Cabin. We call it the Mountainside Cabin, and it is located on the adjacent property. We recently remodeled the Mountainside Cabin and are so pleased with the results that we have a hard time choosing which one to stay in when we visit. The main difference is that the Carolina Cabin has a rear driveway that takes you right to the back door, whereas Mountainside does not have level entry. Entry is via a stairway from the front driveway. The descriptions that follow apply to both cabins. --------------------Over the years many guests have commented that visiting our (Carolina) cabin is like staying at the home of an out-of-town friend. It has all the comforts of home, as well as the privacy of the woods, the beauty of the mountains and the activities of a resort area.The living/dining room has a cathedral ceiling with clerestory windows up high and a stone fireplace. A fire offers warmth and atmosphere after skiing or on cool summer evenings. Relax with cable TV, a video on the VCR/DVD player or enjoy your favorite music on the stereo/CD/cassette player. A small assortment of video tapes, DVDs, and CDs are provided.Handmade quilts cover the beds in the two vaulted-ceiling bedrooms, both of which open to the deck with glass doors. The master bedroom has a king size bed and is adjacent to the large (4 person) Jacuzzi, which is a great comfort after skiing or hiking. On one side of the Jacuzzi room is a bathroom and on the other side is a small, private deck. The second bedroom has twin beds and also opens to the deck with glass doors. The cozy sleeping loft is accessible from this bedroom by ladder and has two foam chair sleepers which unfold to twin size. A second bathroom serves this side of the cabin. The dining room table seats six comfortably. For additional seating, four barstools line the counter that separates the kitchen from the living/dining room. The kitchen is fully equipped with range, refrigerator, microwave oven, dishwasher, dishes and cooking utensils. A washer and dryer are adjacent to the living/dining area. A large deck runs along the front of the cabin and is accessible by big glass doors from each of the bedrooms and the living/dining room area. It is equipped with several chairs, a picnic table, and a gas barbecue grill. From this deck you can see the ski slope in the winter when the trees are bare. The cabins were built in 1986 and are in very good condition. They are heated by electric wall units located in each room, making it comfortable even in the coldest weather. Paddle fans in the bedrooms and living/dining area cool the cabin on warm summer days. Since the cabin is at approximately 4500 foot elevation, it is always cool in the evenings. Location Located on Seven Devils Mountain in the North Carolina High Country, the cabin is within walking distance (1/2 mile) of Hawksnest Ski and Golf resort. The towns of Boone, Banner Elk and Blowing Rock are nearby. It is a quiet, heavily wooded, residential area, with a mix of full time residents and owners/ renters. The paved roads are well maintained by the Town of Seven Devils. The community is very secure, with only one road in and out; the town Police and Fire Station/Town Hall is located about midway up the main road, and only a few miles below the cabin. Rates$850 per week. $200 per day (minimum of 2 days) when available. Holiday Rates may be higher. For all rates add $75 cleaning fee and $200 refundable damage deposit.
