New Oxford, “The Antique Capital of Central Pennsylvania” is the perfect location for shopping and searching for that perfect antique. Gettysburg Pennsylvania is only eight miles west on Route 30. Touring Gettysburg and the battlefields can be made easy with professional tour guides or self-guided driving, walking or horse riding trails. We can even assist you with your arrangements and reservation if needed.
A little further to the north is Carlisle and Harrisburg. Carlisle is the home of Dickinson College and School of Law and the Carlisle Army War Barracks. While in town check out the memorials for “Molly Pitcher” and Jim Thorpe. Carlisle Productions offers several auto flea markets, events and featured car shows throughout the spring, summer and fall. Harrisburg, Pennsylvania’s state Capital offers a wide range of events and activities. Among them include the Pa State Farm Show and Pa Home and Builders Show, holiday celebrations on the riverfront, theater and the Civil War Museum. Hershey Pennsylvania is only minutes away from Harrisburg.
Then there is Lancaster County Pennsylvania. Even though it is a lifestyle away it is an easy drive east on Route 30. While staying at Chestnut Hall Bed and Breakfast you really should take at least one day to tour the Pennsylvania Dutch Country. You’ll be glad you did.
Back at Chestnut Hall the living room is a great space for socializing with other guests after a full day of touring and leisure activities. On occasion you may even find some homemade Sweet Potato Biscuits and tea or lemonade set out by the innkeepers. Guests are offered the opportunity to read a classic book from a wide selection of 100s of books in the library. You can also make a selection to read up on Civil War history. The library and front parlor make great reading spots in the house or you can retreat to the solitude of your own room.
Chestnut Hall is the perfect location for touring the countryside, shopping for antiques, absorbing the history of Gettysburg or spending that quiet perfect weekend getaway. There’s certainly more shopping and touring that can be done in just a weekend at Chestnut Hall so feel free to plan on a longer stay. After visiting with us and experiencing this “Victorian Splendor”, you’ll want to come back again and again.
