Twelve kilometres from Pinhão and twenty-two from Vila Real, stands the manor of Vilarinho de S. Romão, that comes from the seventeenth century and was very much improved a century later. The chapel was built much earlier and was consecrated in 1462. When entering Sabrosa, turn right to the EN 323 on the way to Pinhão – at 3 kms distance, is Vilarinho de S. Romão. The manor, from witch the village takes the name, stands out on the left with its ancient chapel and imposing gate. Right at the centre of the Port Wine country, an area classified by UNESCO as World Heritage, the manor of Vilarinho de S. Romão is the ideal starting point if you want to visit the Douro valley. The houseguests may visit the famous Port wine farms, sail on the Douro and take the train along the Douro or Tua valleys. To the north, you can visit in the nearby Trás-os-Montes, you can visit the city of Vila Real and the Palácio de Mateus, the pre-roman sanctuary of Panóias, the city of Alijó, S. Martinho de Anta, home of the writer Miguel Torga, and Sabrosa, birthplace of Magellan, the famous navigator. 78 kms from Vilarinho de S. Romão, stands the Parque de Foz Côa, where the famous prehistorical site is located.
