Tucked away in the Green Mountains this little bed and breakfast is the perfect place for the budget-minded traveler to experience the bountiful outdoor activities of southern Vermont. Geoff and Christiane, after looking at affordable lodgings (“Pensionen”) in Christiane’s native Bavaria (Germany) and other European countries, were inspired to create an easy-going atmosphere for visiting outdoor enthusiasts. Guests will find four cozy rooms, adjacent to a gurgling brook, each with private entrances and showers. For guests with prior reservations, a continental breakfast is arranged every morning in the common room, where guests can help themselves to freshly brewed coffee or tea, orange juice, cereals, muffins, home-made granola, and other breakfast items. The common room is a place where friends can visit in the evening to enjoy a glass of wine, surf the internet, read about the region, play board games, or watch a movie. A microwave and refrigerator can be used to prepare and store small meals.
We are located four miles north of Jamaica, Vermont on Vermont Route 30/100. The Stone Boat Farm’s close proximity to the Green Mountain National Forest, Appalachian (Long) Trail, the West and Battenkill rivers as well as numerous lakes and ponds, provide the outdoor enthusiast with a myriad of summer and winter activities including hiking, biking, wildlife watching, kayaking, canoeing, fishing/hunting, skiing and snowshoeing. Nearby ski areas (the Stratton Mountain Resort is only 8 minutes away) offer New England's finest downhill skiing experience. The cross-country skier will find an ample selection of trails along meandering rivers and along lakes giving breath-taking views of mountain panorama as well as nearby well-groomed trails at both the Grafton Ponds and Viking Nordic Ski centers.
At the Stone Boat Farm, we often wander through our 40 acres of wooded terrain observing nature's gift to southern Vermont. Here you can take a moonlit walk in the forest listening to owls. Deer, moose, mink, beaver, black bear, brook trout, wildflowers, wild raspberries, coyotes, frogs, toads, and even tiny orange salamanders make up some of the native flora and fauna. So if you enjoy observing what nature has to offer, including an amazing brilliant night sky, illuminated only by firelight, then you will enjoy your stay at the Stone Boat Farm.
Taking a break from outdoor activities, the nearby villages of Jamaica, Stratton, and Manchester offer numerous arts and craft shops, antique stores and designer outlets. Visit historic Grafton (only 20 minutes away) and explore a quintessential Vermont village and cheese factory. Nearby villages offer plenty of exquisite restaurants as well as local diners offering hearty, affordable meals.
We look forward to hosting you!
Geoff and Chris
